Confidence & Self-esteem

There are many reasons why we lose confidence and develop poor self-esteem. Stressful life events such as financial stress and relationship breakdowns have a huge impact on how we view ourselves and our ability to succeed. Poor academic performance at school along with overly critical parents and teachers often results in a lack of confidence and low self-esteem. Medical conditions like chronic pain, physical disability and serious illness are known to cause low mood and self-image issues. Also, Mental Illnesses such as anxiety, depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD), burnout and compassion fatigue are directly linked to our ability to feel good about ourselves and our abilities.

In fact being confident and having a high self-esteem is essential because it determines how we experience life and the results we produce. Being confident affects our ability to achieve long term happiness and emotional wellbeing. Having a good self-esteem is really important because it plays a major role in every aspect of our lives – it affects our relationships with family, friends and work colleagues; our capacity to trust others; and our effectiveness and productivity at work. At a deeper level it affects our ability to find inner peace and contentment. Self-esteem can be a predictor of success and fulfilment.

Having low confidence and poor self-esteem can be a debilitating condition because it affects all parts of your life and all your relationships. It ultimately prevents you from reaching your full potential and achieving genuine happiness.
